Feeling those January Blues?
I get it—January can be tough. It’s cold, dark, often wet and windy, and definitely not the kind of weather that invites outdoor adventures. Our vitamin D levels are probably on the low side, which can lead to a bit of a dip in mood—SAD, anyone? Some people escape it all with a winter sun getaway (I’ve got friends soaking up the Caribbean sun as we speak... not jealous at all).
I don’t mind January, though—it's not my top pick for the year, but I think it has its charm. During these colder months, we naturally slow down. Think about it: animals hibernate, and while we can’t exactly do that, we also take a step back. It’s part of our natural rhythm. Plus, the TV offerings this time of year are often some of the best! I’m currently hooked on Playing Nice on ITV and The Traitors on BBC, and I’ve got a long Netflix list to keep me busy.
I also find myself heading to the cinema more often or treating myself to an afternoon tea (because who’s craving that in spring or summer?). A trip to the theater, or just enjoying a cozy roast at the pub on a Sunday afternoon—open fire included—sounds perfect.
January tends to be a month of reflection for a lot of us. We think back on the previous year and start making plans to make 2025 even better—whether that’s focusing on health, career, or keeping the momentum from a great year going.
New Year's Resolutions? I’m not a huge fan of them, rather I’ll look at where I can make small sustainable changes that make lasting impact. But if I was pushed for one? I try to visit somewhere new every year. This could be a country, a city, a culture. Adventure is one of my values so I try to incorporate that every year. I haven’t decided on this years “new place” yet but there’s still plenty of time 😀
Every month has something to offer (though I might have to dig deep for February, maybe I’ll escape to the sun!), and I always try to find the beauty in each one. January, with all its divisiveness, definitely pushes me to search for the positives more than any other month.
How do you feel about January?
